A Southwest Side man due in court this week on robbery charges will also face charges for threatening a witness in his case.
Ahnmad Artis, 32, of the 3800 block of South Albany in the Brighton Park neighborhood, allegedly threatened to beat up a man who was going to testify against him. It was unclear if the victim of the threats was also the victim in the robbery.
“Tell (the witness) not to go to court tomorrow,” Artis allegedly told a friend of the victim, whom Artis had allegedly beaten badly on Thursday. “If he does, what happened to him (before) will be worst".
Judge Ramon Ocasio III ordered Artis held in lieu of $50,000 bail, and told him not to go near the alleged victim if he is released.
“These allegations are disturbing,” Ocasio said. “We can’t have people going to witnesses and threatening them, telling them don’t go to court.”
