3 questioned in South Loop strong-arm robberies

Police today were questioning three people in connection with a series of strong-armed robberies, following a mugging in the South Loop neighborhood, officials said.
Police issued a community alert this morning warning of the robberies in the vicinities of Roosevelt Road to 18th Street and between Prairie to Michigan avenues.

The robbers would exit a vehicle, approach the victims from behind, knock them to the ground and take their valuables, police said.

About 12:30 a.m. today, a woman's purse was taken on the 1400 block of South Prairie Avenue. A suspect
took the purse and fled the scene, police said. The woman was reported unharmed.

Police described the robbers as a group of at least four males and one female. The males are between the ages of 18 and 25, ranging between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall each, and between 140 and 200 pounds, police said. The female was described as between the ages of 16 and 19, at least 5 feet 10 inches tall and between 120 and 130 pounds. Police said she accompanied the men in at least one of the robberies.

There was no suspect description given in the mugging this morning.

Police said this afternoon that people were being questioned in connection with the community alert. No one has been charged with any of the robberies as of this afternoon, said Police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety.
