Two robbers made off with a "substantial" amount of cash this morning when they held up a currency exchange in the West Lawn neighborhood on the city's Southwest Side, officials said.
About 8 a.m., two males entered the currency exchange located on the 3600 block of West 63rd Street, one wearing a black hoodie and brown pants, said Police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli. The hooded man pulled out a silver revolver and demanded cash from a teller, he said.
The robbers then fled southbound in an alley with the cash and a cordless phone, Mirabelli said.
Police could not confirm the exact amount taken and would only say it was substantial. No one was injured during the robbery.
Police were interviewing witnesses and reviewing video surveillance tapes to help identify the two individuals.
So far, no one was in custody. Wentworth Area detectives were investigating
