39-year-old murder suspect arrested last month as he tried to enter the country from Mexico was ordered held without bail today, charged with having a role in a 1994 slaying, authorities said.
U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officers took Alfredo Marin into custody on April 22 at the San Ysidro Point of Entry in San Diego after a fingerprint check showed that he was named in an April 1994 Cook County murder warrant, authorities said.
Harrison Area detectives brought Marin to Chicago on Wednesday and he was charged with first-degree murder, authorities said.
Chicago police said Marin, who previously was identified with the surname Marin Ramirez, got into a physical altercation with the 21-year-old victim in the 2000 block of South Allport Street and shot the victim several times. One other person previously had been charged in the homicide.
Neither federal nor Chicago authorities released the name of the victim.
Judge Ramon Ocasio III today denied bail for Marin. He’s expected to return to court next month.
