Woman dies in accident involving Pace vehicle on South Side

a 58-year-old woman died this afternoon after a Pace vehicle she was riding in swerved to miss a pedestrian in the street and struck a light pole.
Ella Williams, of the 1700 block of West 85th Street, was pronounced dead at 1:23 p.m. at Stroger Hospital.
Williams was a passenger in a Pace vehicle that was southbound on the 4600 block of South Halsted Street at about 12:35 p.m.
A pedestrian ran out into traffic and the driver of the Pace vehicle swerved to avoid striking the pedestrian and lost control of the vehicle. The Pace vehicle then struck a pole, Zala said.
The victim was taken to Stroger hospital but later died.
