West Woodlawn woman dies of gunshot wound to the arm

A 23-year-old woman found Monday morning lying on the ground near her West Woodlawn neighborhood home on the South Side was shot to death.
An autopsy performed today found that 23-year-old Alexis Stevens died of a gunshot wound to the arm and her death was ruled a homicide.
Stevens, of the 6300 block of South Eberhart Avenue, was found about 7:35 a.m. in the 6400 block of South Eberhart.
Detectives launched a death investigation after a garbage truck driver found her lying on her back on the ground in a back yard of vacant property.
She was clothed and wearing a fur-trimmed jacket, but her jeans were unbuttoned and her left boot and sock were missing.
Blood was found on her hair and coming from her ear. The trucker flagged down a passerby and police were called to the scene.
During a canvass of the area, a neighbor told police he heard a single gunshot at 3 a.m. and another neighbor said he heard people yelling in the area where she was found about 2:25 a.m.
The victim's boyfriend told police she’d left their home about 2 a.m. to purchase narcotics
