A 12-year-old girl who was pulled from Lake Michigan near North Avenue Beach
Friday has died from her injuries.
Aiyonna Jones of the
8400 block of South Brandon Avenue was pronounced dead at 7:20 a.m. at Lurie
Children's Hospital.
Jones was hit by large waves off North Avenue Beach
Friday evening and was rescued by lifeguards who noticed someone was in
distress.
The lifeguards started cardiopulmonary
resuscitation which was continued by Chicago Fire Department paramedics to
Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She was listed in critical condition at
Northwestern where she was transferred to Lurie Children's Hospital where she
later died
