Prosecutors: Man raped girl in front of her brother

A Chicago man raped a 6-year-old girl while her young brother watched from under his blankets, Cook County prosecutors said today in bond court.

Jerry Harris, 38, was held Saturday in lieu of $1 million bail. He is charged with predatory sexual assault of a child, a felony.

The girl, a child of Harris’ friend, was asleep when he came into her room at her home on North Keeler Avenue in West Garfield Park, prosecutors said.

He ordered her brother, also a child, to hide under his covers, prosecutors said, but the boy peeked from beneath his bedding as Harris raped the girl.

Prosecutors told the judge Harris of the 4200 block of West Jackson Boulevard has eight prior felony convictions.

He has five children, his public defender said.

Harris was arrested Friday about 10:15 a.m. near his home.
