1 teen killed, 1 wounded in Southwest Side shooting

A 13-year-old boy was shot to death and another teen wounded this afternoon on the city's Southwest Side, officials said.
The shooting happened about 4:45 p.m. on the 6100 block of South Sacramento Avenue.

Preliminary reports said the boy and another youth, a 16-year-old boy, were walking on the street when they were approached by two male suspects. One of the suspects pulled out a gun and fired, striking both victims, police said.

The 13-year-old boy suffered a fatal shot to his chest. The other youth suffered wounds to his chest and left side. There was no immediate information available about his condition.

As of 9:30 p.m., no one was in custody for the slaying. Wentworth Area detectives were investigating.

A spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office said the boy's name was not being released pending family notification
