Man, 20, dead after July 4th explosion at home

A 20-year-old man died this afternoon following an explosion at his Far South Side home on July 4.
Francisco Vargas, 20, of the 10600 block of Avenue O, was at his home on July 4, when the explosion occurred that badly burned him.
Paramedics were called to the basement of his home at 11:21 p.m. when a power tool leaking gas was ignited by a pilot light, causing a flash explosion.
The victim was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital initially, but the medical examiner’s office said he was pronounced dead today at 12:25 p.m. at the burn unit ofJohn H. Stroger Jr. Hospitalof Cook County.
