Corrections officer killed in hit-and-run outside Cook County Jail

A hit-and-run driver late Wednesday killed a veteran Cook County sheriff's corrections officer outside Cook County Jail where she was about to start her overnight shift.

The officer is Nikkii Bostic-Jones, 38, of southwest suburban Plainfield.
Bostic-Jones was crossing California Avenue near 29th Street just before 11 p.m., when a van struck her in the roadway.
The impact pushed the officer into oncoming traffic, where she was struck and pinned underneath a second vehicle, Bilecki said. The van fled the scene.
The injured officer was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The married mother of a 6-year-old daughter, Nikkia, Bostic-Jones was about to begin her 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift at the jail, according to her family.
